Many people only put in the minimal amount of effort required to get a job done. They’re satisfied so long as their results fall among the average standards. If you want to stand out from the crowd you need to learn to go the “extra mile” by going over and beyond the call of duty and doing more than is required.
Jesus first laid out this principle when He said, “If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.” (Matthew 5:41). He taught us that greatness comes from a life of service to others. He taught us to be generous with our gifts, sharing them with as many people as we can, as often as we have the opportunity to do so.
“There are no traffic jams on the extra mile.” – Zig Ziglar
In a world where mediocre is common, you can stand out by going the extra mile. Start by doing common things uncommonly well. A commitment to going the extra mile will distinguish you from others, it will set you up for success in business and in life.
When you do more than is required it’s not a wasted effort, instead you’re investing into your future where you will one day reap a harvest. So, don’t settle for “ok” if you can go for greatness. If you want to live an extraordinary life you must be willing to do what ordinary people won’t do.
“Always do more than you get paid for, to make an investment in your future”. – Jim Rohn
In what areas of your life can you go the extra mile? God doesn’t call us to live average lives, getting by with an attitude of just enough. He wants His children to be more, to live generously and to display His overflowing excellence to the world we live in.
